چکیده

In 1926 Campbell and Hanna (1) published a method for the determination of fructose based upon the reduction of molybdenum in phosphoric acid solution and the reoxidation of the reduced molybdenum with potassium permanganate. This method is not entirely specific for fructose; other substances in blood and urine have some reducing action upon the molybdic acid reagent. The method will not permit microapplications of the same magnitude as are possible with calorimetric methods, the regular procedure being developed to estimate 1 mg. quantities. The time required for reduction is 90 minutes, which limits the usefulness of the method. In 1927 a method based upon the Seliwanoff reaction was published by Kronenberger and Radt (2). These authors deproteinized blood with trichloroacetic acid and treated the filtrate with resorcinol and HCl. They stated that normal blood filtrates gave a brownish color with their reagents; and they experienced difficulty in determining fructose in urine because of interfering substances. They abandoned their procedure and adopted the method of Van Creveld (3), which was published the same year. Van Creveld’s method makes use of the blue color produced when fructose is dehydrated with HCl in the presence of diphenylamine, a reaction first observed by Ihl and Pechmann (4). In this method blood is deproteinized with HgCl,, the filtrate is mixed with HCl and diphenylamine in a tube and placed in a boiling water bath for 15 minutes, the color obtained is extracted with amyl alcohol, and comparison is made with standards pre-

New Enzymatic Colorimetric Method for the Quantitative Determination of Phenylalanine in Dry-Blood Spots

Phenylketonuria (PKU) is an autosomal recessive disorder, which is characterized by severe mental retardation, microcephaly and seizures. The symptoms of this disease can be prevented if detected soon after birth. Therefore, blood Phenylalanine (Phe) measurement is essential for the early diagnosis, treatment and dietary monitoring of PKU patients. The goal of this research was to introduce a r...

Chitosan Capped Silver Nanoparticles as Colorimetric Sensor for the Determination of Iron(III)

A selective, simple and low-cost method for the colorimetric determination of Fe3+ ions based on chitosan capped silver nanoparticles (Chit-AgNPs) was presented. Chitosan is a cationic polyelectrolyte and possesses amino and hydroxy groups which make it widely used as a capping agent for Ag NPs. The synthesized chitosan capped silver nanoparticles with excellent colloidal stability were charact...

Dye Concentrations Determination in Ternary Mixture Solution by Using Colorimetric Algorithm

This publication uses a colorimetric method based on the absorbance spectra of dye solutions to improve on Beer’s law when calculating the dye concentrations of a three-component mixture. The performance of the new method is compared with that of Beer’s law evaluated at three wavelengths, and Beer’s law evaluated at 16 wavelengths. Colorimetric method gives the best prediction of d...

Partial Least Square and Parallel Factor Analysis Methods Applied for Spectrophotometric Determination of Cefixime in Pharmaceutical Formulations and Biological Fluid

In this study, the direct determination of cefixime as an anti-bacterial agent, in pharmaceutical formulations, urine and human blood plasma was conducted based on spectrophotometric measurements using parallel factor analysis (PARAFAC) and partial least squares (PLS). The calibration set was composed of fourteen solutions in the range of 0.50- 9.00 µg mL-1. PLS models were calculated at each p...
